Looking to start a career on the road?
Sweeney Oil is now offering places on our Driver Cadet Programme – a hands-on, fully supported pathway to becoming a qualified Rigid Oil Truck Driver.
We don’t require any prior truck driving experience. If you have a clean driving history and a strong work ethic, we’ll guide you through every step of your training; from learner permit to full licence and ADR certification.
The Programme
This is a practical, full-time role for individuals interested in joining the oil distribution industry. You’ll be supported by experienced drivers, undergo formal training and testing, and gradually take on more responsibility as you build skills and qualifications.
You’ll start with general depot and vehicle support duties, then progress to supervised route experience as your licensing progresses.
What You’ll Learn
- Safe and professional operation of rigid oil trucks
- Fuel delivery procedures and customer interaction
- Route planning and vehicle checks
- Health, safety, and environmental standards
- ADR (hazardous goods) compliance training
- Customer service skills in the field
What You’ll Need
- Full clean B (car) licence
- A strong interest in professional driving
- Reliable, mature attitude and willingness to learn
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to represent the Sweeney Oil brand with professionalism
